ATLANTA, Ga. (WJBF) — Georgia is adding a new line of defense in the fight against drug trafficking with the launch of a new Homeland Security Task Force in Atlanta — one of nearly 30 established nationwide to target drug cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and violent crime.
The announcement comes just days after federal investigators arrested two men in a sweeping fentanyl trafficking bust in metro Atlanta. Prosecutors say the suspects could face life in prison, with a mandatory minimum of 10 years behind bars if convicted.
Last Friday, FBI and DEA agents seized 21 kilograms of fentanyl and nearly $400,000 in cash from a rental home in Forest Park, located near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Federal officials say one of the suspects attempted to flee the property as agents executed a search warrant…
