After nearly a decade of spearheading transformative projects at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Executive Director Rick Cotton is set to retire in January 2026. The agency that oversees much of the transportation infrastructure in the area, including major airports, will announce his successor in due course. Cotton’s significant tenure has been marked by the major overhauls of the NYC-area airports and navigating the turbulent waters of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under Cotton’s watch, the Port Authority embarked on a $50 billion initiative, refreshing the aviation gateways to the city with notable achievements such as the $8 billion LaGuardia rebuild, which Forbes Magazine hailed as the best airport in America in March 2021. The transformation has been significant, given that just several years before, the airport was likened to a “third world” facility by then-Vice President Joe Biden, according to AM NewYork.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, in praise of Cotton, stated, “Rick took on one of the toughest public-service jobs in America and delivered extraordinary results.” Similarly, New Jersey Gov.
