ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Miss Julie’s School of Beauty celebrated a milestone on Monday, earning the title of the first no-cost, therapeutic cosmetology school for survivors of sex trafficking in the United States.
The achievement follows recent licensing approval from New York State for the program to offer trauma-informed instruction to at-risk individuals and survivors working towards obtaining a cosmetology license. Miss Julie’s School of Beauty representatives describe the opportunity as one that will create a “permanent pathway to safety, economic stability, and long-term freedom.”
Before expanding their services, the cosmetology school began by providing education to allies, salons, and beauty industry professionals on how to recognize signs of sex trafficking, proper methods of intervention, and provide resources alongside local organizations…
