(KRON) — A man was arrested after he allegedly threatened to bludgeon a person to death with a hammer in Novato Sunday.
The suspect, 58-year-old Matthew Malouf, threatened to kill a person with mobility issues and raised the hammer to strike them on the 800 block of Tamalpais Avenue when a passerby intervened, according to the Novato Police Department.

“Officers learned the victim, who has limited mobility and was unable to run away, was followed by Malouf,” Novato PD said. “Malouf had threatened to kill the victim and raised the hammer to strike them. The assault was interrupted by a passerby, who called 911 and caused Malouf to flee.”
Before officers arrived, the suspect ran into their home, police said. The victim was uninjured.
“For the next several hours, officers attempted to negotiate with Malouf, who refused to come outside,” Novato PD said.
