Tribes sue Oklahoma over hunting and fishing citations

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Cherokee, Choctaw and Chickasaw nations are suing Oklahoma over hunting on tribal grounds.

KSN’s sister station KSNF in Joplin, Missouri, reported that the federal lawsuit names Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, special prosecutor Russ Cochran and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation as defendants.

The lawsuit stems from Stitt terminating the Cherokee Nation’s wildlife compacts, ordering game wardens to cite tribal members for hunting or fishing on tribal lands without a state permit, and appointing a special prosecutor to prosecute tribe members…
