DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — Plastic bins of fentanyl pills – 1.7 million in all – discovered in a Douglas County storage unit are connected to a long-running federal investigation focused on the notorious Sinaloa Cartel, 9NEWS Investigates has learned.
The same investigation led to arrests in April of 20 people in Colorado, New Mexico and Oregon, including Heriberto Salazar Amaya, described by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as a “leader” and “operative” in the cartel.
A man identified in court documents as his brother, Rafael Salazar Amaya, was also among those taken into custody and is facing 44 state charges for drugs and organized crime. He is being held in the Adams County jail on a $500,000 cash-only bail…
