Jamestown Woman Charged with Bilking Over $22,000 in Public Benefits

An investigation into welfare fraud has led to felony charges against a Jamestown woman. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says the probe, in partnership with the Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene and Social Services Integrity Unit and the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office alleges that 53-year-old Kathy Freedline got more than $22,000 in public benefits from October 2021 to April 2024 that she was not entitled to receive. Freedline was arrested Monday on charges of 4th-degree welfare fraud, 4th-degree grand larceny and 1st-degree offering a false instrument for filing.
