The saying goes: “It takes a village to raise a child.” And that was never more obvious than Monday at the Horry County Government and Justice Building when the village showed up to watch two youngsters begin a new life with a new name.
Two smiling kids known to the members of Legacy Church as C.J. and J.J. held signs that read, “For 1,119 days, God was writing a chapter in my life called foster care. Today, he wrote adopted, November 24, 2025.”
Monday morning on National Adoption Day in South Carolina, the lady they have called Mama for most of their young lives officially gained that title, while the kids gained a new last name — Rea.
After years of triumph and heartbreak dealing with the foster system, Lindsey Rea signed the official adoption papers, much to the delight of family and church members who gathered Monday morning in Conway for the event all had been hoping and praying for since C.J.
