‘It’s like shopping used to be:’ This Lafayette kitchen supply store remains a community hub

When Cathi Pavy needed a garlic press, she knew exactly where to go — The Kitchenary in Lafayette.

This kitchen supply store sits in a bright little shop next door to Champagne’s Market in the Oil Center. Founded by Lisa Breaux in 1990, Beth and Greg Champagne bought it in 2004 when they remodeled the old Piggly Wiggly and opened the Lafayette location of Champagne’s.

“It’s like shopping used to be,” Pavy said. “Going to The Kitchenary is about the whole experience. They have all the beautiful dishes and useful gadgets, but they also have food.”

Pavy calls it “fun shopping — the kind of shopping you do when it’s not a chore.”…
