Over $100 Million in Unclaimed Property Returned to Arkansas Residents—Find Out if You’re Owed Money

Arkansas State Auditor Dennis Milligan has reported that his office has returned over $100 million in unclaimed property to Arkansas residents. As of November 2025, the Unclaimed Property division has distributed $100.2 million. The program aims to return financial assets such as utility deposits, dormant bank accounts, insurance proceeds, stocks, and inheritances to their owners. These assets are transferred to the state when companies cannot locate the owners. The auditor’s office is responsible for returning them.

Milligan stated that the office has increased outreach to inform residents about unclaimed property. Staff have contacted Arkansans at festivals, conferences, and through mobile offices and letter campaigns. In one case, an elderly couple in Jacksonville received over $489,000 after being notified by the office.

A recent increase in returned funds is linked to the Data Match program, which was authorized by Act 114 of 2025. This program allows the auditor’s office to send automatic checks to individuals owed between $50 and $5,000, if their identity is verified.
