Dear Editor: November is National Homeless Awareness Month — but you wouldn’t know it in Dane County. County Executive Melissa Agard and the County Board didn’t even issue a resolution acknowledging it.
Instead of addressing the housing crisis, officials used the homeless as leverage in budget negotiations to pull funding from Sheriff Kalvin Barrett. Led by Supervisor Heidi Wegleitner, they turned our lives into bargaining chips while steering money toward nonprofit allies with inflated executive salaries.
Their actions make one thing clear: They don’t care about the homeless. I say that from personal experience…
