Spokane man accused of aiming laser at helicopter, impacting pilot’s flight

SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane man is being accused of shining a laser at a helicopter on Saturday night.

According to an affidavit of facts, at around 8:44 p.m., a pilot for the Spokane Regional Air Support Unit was responding to a hit-and-run crash at Sprague and Altamont when a laser struck her in the face while flying, impairing her flying abilities.

In the document, it also states how a detective with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) says the pilot was able to point her Air-1’s Trakka thermal camera at a person, believed to be a man, on the north side between N Ruby Street and E Sinto Ave in an alley…
