Heavy mountain snow will slow down Thanksgiving travelers, but that’s not all. It will be cold enough tonight for a little taste of winter in the valleys and lowlands too.
Plan your Tuesday
After a chilly start to the day, temperatures will reach the upper 30s under cloudy skies. The evening commute will go smoothly with a few areas of light rain by 5 p.m.
As temperatures cool tonight and precipitation gets heavier, we’ll see the rain flip to a rain/snow mix and even all snow for higher elevations around Spokane and Coeur d’Alene.
What We’re Tracking
Snow in valley locations will range from a slushy dusting up to 1 inch. In some cases like the bottom of the Spokane River valley, snow will fall but probably won’t stick. A few areas, such as Spirit Lake, Clarkia, and the Silver Valley could reasonably see more than 1 inch. It’s uncertain how much snow will last into Wednesday morning since we’ll likely see a transition back to rain in the valleys before the morning commute.
Mountain passes will see heavy snow and possibly even freezing rain from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. In the Cascades, snow totals will range from 6 inches to over a foot. Up to 7 inches are possible over Lookout Pass during this time. Avoid mountain travel if you can late Tuesday! …
