DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — In a “robbing Peter to pay Paul” situation, an Ohio bill on its way to the governor’s desk has the potential to help homeowners while hurting renters.
House Bill 186, introduced in March, aims to further reform property taxes across the state to ease the financial burden on Ohioans’ wallets, especially those living on a fixed income, as property values and taxes continue to skyrocket.
Part of the bill caps the amount of money collected by schools due to inflation, while also providing an eventual 15 percent property tax credit to homeowners, aiming to protect them from rising property values and taxes, as well as targeting institutional investors…
