On Nov. 17, 2025, at approximately 11:12 a.m., the California Highway Patrol – Indio
Dispatch Center received reports of a traffic crash involving a vehicle versus a tire. The crash was reported on State Route 60 westbound, west of Jack Rab- bit Trail. Officers from the California Highway Patrol San Gorgonio Pass Area and emergency personnel from Cal Fire responded to the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicated a silver 2011 BMW 328i, driven by a 54-year-old male from Riverside, was traveling on State Route 60 eastbound, within the No.1 lane, when its left rear tire became detached and airborne. The tire went over the center divider wall and onto State Route 60 westbound. A white 2017 Toyota Sienna, driven by a 68-year-old male from Los Angeles, was traveling within the No. 1 lane of State Route 60 westbound and was struck by the tire. The BMW’s tire hit the front windshield and roof of the Toyota. The Toyota traveled out of control and crashed into the center divider wall.
