Riverside County Residents Encouraged to Adopt as Local Shelters Face Overcrowding

On Saturday, the Riverside County Department of Animal Services (RCDAS) worked with Wings of Rescue to move 19 dogs to Seattle Humane in Washington. Most of the dogs are large breeds. The transfer is intended to help the dogs find homes, as Riverside County shelters are currently over capacity. Nearly 1,000 dogs are still waiting for adoption in the county.

RCDAS is holding a “Black Saturday” event on November 29 to encourage local adoptions. Adoption fees will be waived. Adopted pets will receive spay or neuter surgery, a microchip, vaccinations, and an engraved ID tag at no cost. The free adoptions will continue through Sunday. Animal services counselors will be available to help people interested in adopting.
