Applications are now being accepted for the Mauldin Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy.
The free program will include classroom learning and hands-on education to educate residents on the day-to-day workings of the police department. Lt. Daniel Turner with the Mauldin Police Department said the goal of the Citizens Police Academy is to put people in the shoes of the police officers.
“I want people to understand our thought process and what leads us to the decisions that we make,” Turner said. “Hopefully, graduates will take that knowledge back to their neighborhoods and use it to enhance communication between citizens and police, which will ultimately help create a safer community for everyone.”…
