Horry County residents collect donations for hurricane relief in Jamaica

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry County residents are working to help send donations to Jamaica after the island nation was recently devastated by Hurricane Melissa.

Volunteers collected about two dozen boxes of donations that included clothing, non-perishable foods, and other items. Many families on the island are still recouping losses from the storm.

The organizer, Yonkisha White, says she’s thankful for the community’s response.

“I feel that the community did an awesome job,” she said. “The minute that I posted it on social media asking for help for Jamaica, my inbox was full. Phone started ringing, everybody started calling, wanting to give donations, and I’m well pleased with the community.”…
