After 26 years in the U.S. Army as an intelligence officer, Jay Griffith is applying the lessons he learned in uniform to shape his approach to running two Myrtle Beach home-service businesses with his family.
Veterans are 45% more likely to be self-employed than non-veterans, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Griffith said the leadership skills, discipline, integrity and respect that military service instilled in him support his entrepreneurial journey with Conserva Irrigation and Superior Fence and Rail.
“You learn to plan in the Army. There’s three steps in an operation; you plan it, you prepare for it and then do the mission. Then you do an after-action review after every mission,” he said. “Those lessons help me every day in business.”…
