Restaurant in The Villages shut down after discovery of roaches

A restaurant in The Villages was shut down this past week after the discovery of roaches.

An inspector ordered the closure of Perkins Restaurant and Bakery at 905 Bichara Blvd. at La Plaza Grande on Nov. 19 after finding roaches under a pass-through window at a wait station, in a disposable glove box at a wait station and under a cooler on a cook line, according to a report on file with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. The restaurant was allowed to reopen later in the day.

Roaches have been a persistent problem at the restaurant.

An inspector made multiple trips in October to Perkins and found roaches during each inspection. Those inspections were Oct. 7, 22, 21 and 24. In each of the visits, there were both dead roaches and living roaches on the premises. In some instances the restaurant manager killed roaches as the inspector watched…
