Massachusetts debates bills on police cooperation with ICE

BOSTON (WWLP) – State public safety committees are weighing their options on bills that stipulate how law enforcement can interact with ICE.

Top lawmakers concerned about upcoming ballot questions

In a Tuesday hearing, lawmakers considered the Safe Communities Act, which would prohibit state and local law enforcement from being deputized as federal immigration authorities.

Met with applause from onlookers, a show of appreciation usually banned in such hearings, the lawmakers who filed the act advocated for a favorable vote out of committee.
