MNPD unit making strides against organized retail crime

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Metro Nashville Police Department’s Organized Retail Crime Unit has been in existence for a little more than a year, and numbers show the unit is making a significant difference in retail thefts across the city.

According to the MNPD, approximately 50 to 60 people classified as “organized retail crime suspects,” who were found reselling or trading stolen merchandise for financial gain, have been identified.

In addition, the unit reportedly identified and dismantled 10 to 12 organized crews who were systematically stealing from retailers for the purpose of resale or trade. Many of the individuals are repeat offenders with theft-related histories, per the MNPD.

Numerous residential, phone and vehicle search warrants conducted on a regular basis have also resulted in thousands of recovered property and new suspects being identified and charged…
