The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science (MMNS) in Jackson has received reaccreditation from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM). This recognition is held by about four percent of the estimated 33,000 museums in the United States. AAM accreditation is considered a leading standard for museum quality and public trust.
Governor Tate Reeves acknowledged the MMNS for this achievement. He noted the dedication of the museum’s staff and partners. The museum was first accredited in 1982. Accredited museums must complete a review process at least every ten years to keep their status. Lynn Posey, Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, said the reaccreditation reflects the staff’s commitment to education for Mississippi families and visitors.
