More homeowners speak out against Overland Park stadium idea

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Dover Estates is just east of Blue Valley North High School and southwest of 119th and Nall.

The northwest corner of that intersection is one of the spots the Kansas City Royals are believed to be considering building a stadium. The homes in that area are less than a 20-minute walk from the old Sprint campus, now known as Aspiria.

Tony Drew takes issue with a recent survey that became public that the Royals weren’t involved in. One question asked Leawood and Overland Park residents whether they’d support a stadium at 119th and Nall. If you add up the numbers, 53% of the people surveyed in that question said they’d support it to some degree. 40% said they’d oppose it.

The Kansas Policy Institute, which actually opposes Sales Tax and Revenue or STAR Bonds being used for a stadium project, paid for the survey to be done. Overland Park’s City Council, with two members in each of the six wards, would all get to vote on issues dealing with the stadium if the Royals were serious about building at 119th and Nall…
