Deadly crash; Iowa girl to light Sanford Castle; Snow and cold arrive

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Here’s a look at this morning’s top stories for your KELOLAND On the Go.

One teenager is dead and three passengers are hospitalized following an early morning crash Saturday at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport. At Monday’s police briefing, Sioux Falls Police Spokesman Sgt. Aaron Benson said a 17-year-old girl has died from her injuries sustained in the crash. The other three occupants’ conditions are unknown.

Last year, little Margarett Travaille was diagnosed with stage 4 hepatoblastoma liver cancer at Sanford Children’s Hospital. The young girl from Sibley, Iowa has been selected for a big role at Sanford’s Christmas at the Castle this year.

The colorful spectacle synonymous with the season in South Dakota’s largest city returns Friday night when the annual Parade of Lights and its different floats illuminate Phillips Avenue. Lt. Andrew Siebenborn with the Sioux Falls Police Department expects 40 or 50,000 people to be on hand, and as far as how many extra police officers will be there, Siebenborn expects roughly one per thousand attendees.
