Venice woman found unfit to stand trial after alleged threats to State’s Attorney’s Office

EDWARDSVILLE — A Venice woman charged with making “terrorist threats” and other crimes after repeatedly harassing and threatening workers with the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office and threatening to “blow up” the Criminal Justice Center last year was recently found unfit to stand trial.

Gwendolyn West, 63, of Venice, was charged May 9, 2024, with making a terrorist threat, a Class X felony; disorderly conduct, a Class 3 felony; electronic harassment, a Class 4 felony; and harassment through electronic communications, a Class B misdemeanor.

According to court documents, in May 2024, West allegedly told a State’s Attorney’s Office employee she intended to blow up the CJC, located at 509 Ramey Street, Edwardsville, and called another office employee and threatened to “blow (the victim’s) brains out.”…
