GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A former Marine will spend more than 15 years in prison after pleading to entering a Rockford-area home and stabbing an 11-year-old girl multiple times.
Ricardo Perez Castillo, 25, was sentenced Wednesday to 18.75 years to 40 years for assault with intent to murder, which the judge said was at the top of the sentencing guidelines. He also received lesser concurrent sentences for other charges and credit for about 1.5 years already served.
“This case is disturbing on so many levels,” Judge Christina Mims said. “What you engaged in was — just what comes to mind is a real-life horror movie or a horror show where you’re stabbing this child. It’s just by the grace of God that she wasn’t killed.”
