VIDEO | “It’s a blessing” – One-day turkey drive feeds hundreds across Wilmington

A long tradition of giving away turkeys in Wilmington continues – this year, with a last-minute push.

People living in Wilmington’s senior citizen high-rises as well as families in need will get to enjoy a turkey for Thanksgiving, thanks to a giveaway that was pulled together in just two weeks. It came about through the efforts of City Council members and other elected officials and partners, as well as volunteers.

“We are here because along with several partners, we are donating 2,500 turkeys to our seniors, to various community centers throughout our city – and none of this could be possible without all of you,” City Council President Trippi Congo said at the Wilmington PAL on North Market Street. He was joined by other council members, Governor Matt Meyer, New Castle County Executive Marcus Henry, County Council President Monique Williams Johns – and a fleet of volunteers, many of whom had been working since before dawn…
