City of Mayflower appoints new mayor after spree of resignations

MAYFLOWER, Ark. (KATV) — The City of Mayflower has a new mayor after leaders voted Tuesday night to appoint Councilman Zach Jeffery to the position, nearly one month after former Mayor Danny Hester submitted his resignation letter, effective November 4.

The council had two options to fill the vacancy: hold a special election or appoint someone themselves. Mayflower City Attorney Dustin Chapman said the law required the council to make a decision Tuesday, and he advised against a special election because it would not take place until February.
