LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A local healthcare provider has been recognized for her efforts to contain one of the most infectious diseases during a measles outbreak that plagued West Texas and eastern New Mexico for more than six months.
The state health department officially declared the outbreak over in August. It originated in Gaines County, southwest of Lubbock, in January and quickly spread.
There were 762 cases confirmed over the more than six-month period, with the majority of the infections occurring in unvaccinated people. There were also 99 hospitalizations, and two school-aged children died during the outbreak…
