SHREVEPORT, La. — Shoppers are filling grocery stores this week as they hunt for ingredients for traditional — and not-so-traditional — holiday feasts. And while a classic Thanksgiving spread may cost slightly less this year compared to last, many shoppers say it certainly doesn’t feel that way.
According to Wells Fargo’s annual Thanksgiving Food Report, the ingredients needed to feed a group of 10 will cost about $80 this year, using store-branded, generic items. Choosing all name-brand ingredients raises that estimate to around $95. Those lower totals reflect price dips in a few key categories, including turkey, soft rolls, and frozen vegetables.
But despite those declines, the overall cost of groceries is still up 2.7% compared to last year — a number that some Shreveport shoppers say hits hard.
