Feeding Hope Program at UNM Children’s Hospital Supports Local Families Facing Food Insecurity

New Mexico has a high rate of food insecurity, with nearly 17% of residents affected, according to a May 2025 report from Feeding America. This rate is higher than the national average of 14.3%. Many families in the state face difficulties in accessing regular meals, including during events such as a child’s hospitalization.

The Feeding Hope program at The University of New Mexico Children’s Hospital has provided hot meals to families of pediatric patients for the past five years. The hospital’s Food and Nutrition Department supplies meals to patients, while Feeding Hope serves family members.
