Deputies: Man Jailed After Attacking Wife and Young Grandchild at Ritzville Rest Area

RITZVILLE — A 64-year-old Buckley man was arrested Tuesday morning after deputies say he assaulted a family member and attempted to stab them with a screwdriver during a disturbance at the westbound Schrag rest area along Interstate 90.

According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 7:15 a.m. on Nov. 25 after receiving a report that a man had “hit” the complainant, causing a bloody nose, and then tried to stab them with a screwdriver. A 9-year-old grandchild was also reportedly assaulted during the incident.

Adams County deputies and Washington State Patrol troopers responded to the rest area, where the suspect, identified as Brian J. Martlin of Buckley, was detained without incident. After an on-scene investigation, Martlin was arrested…
