Albany police holiday meal program aids 75 local families

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Albany Police Department distributed 75 meals to families in need on Tuesday. The meal kit included everything you’d need for a holiday feast, including turkey, pie and whipped cream.

Officers said the distribution began three years ago to help families within the Albany City School District. The number of people participating in the program has nearly doubled each year.

“The first year, we actually did 20 families, last year we did 45, and this year we’re up to 75,” Officer Megan Craft said. “And our school resource officers go through the schools to identify the families in need.”

Officers said they understand the challenges families face this time of year and the stress that comes along with the holidays, so they plan on bringing the program back every year…
