An Asian woman in her late 30s was struck by a truck and died last Tuesday, November 18, while trying to cross Redwood Road in the southbound direction, just north of Lessley Avenue.
First responders were called to the scene shortly before 4:00 p.m. However, just prior to their arrival, a volunteer firefighter from Castro Valley did what he could to save the woman.
Paul Schaffer, a 69-year-old resident, said he was returning from some errands when he found himself stuck in traffic. By the time he got closer to the incident, he could tell something was wrong. He hopped out of his vehicle and ran to the scene…
