Grieving mother urges caution on ‘Blackout Wednesday’ as Monroe County prepares for holiday traffic

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Law enforcement is bracing for one of the busiest, and potentially most dangerous, nights of the year. The evening before Thanksgiving, commonly referred to as “Blackout Wednesday,” draws large crowds to bars ahead of the long holiday weekend.

Sarah Palermo knows the stakes personally. Her daughter was killed by a drunk driver in 2003. Since then, Palermo has become an advocate against impaired driving, sharing her daughter Lindsey’s story in the hope of preventing similar tragedies.

“There is no good way for a parent to lose their child, but this was 100% preventable,” Palermo said. “I know this man didn’t mean to kill Lindsey, but he didn’t care who it was.”…
