One man dead after crashing into semi-trailer on Tuesday

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — A 65-year-old man died Tuesday after his SUV left the roadway and crashed into a parked semi-trailer along Interstate 27, according to the Amarillo Police Department.

APD stated officers were called around 5:39 p.m. to the 3800 block of I-27 for a major crash involving a Chevrolet Tahoe and a fixed object. The driver, identified as Craig Steven Long, was traveling south on Canyon Drive when his vehicle suddenly left the highway, went down a grassy embankment, and struck a semi-trailer stored inside a fenced lot at 3852 Canyon Drive.

Long was declared dead on the scene, according to APD officials. Randall County Justice of the Peace Crump responded and ordered an autopsy. The incident remains under investigation by the Amarillo Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Squad, and APD noted that next of kin has been notified.
