Several apartment complexes evacuated after trains derail in east Houston

HOUSTON (CW39) – Eight Union Pacific train cars derailed near Hughes Street and Harrisburg Boulevard on Wednesday in Houston’s East End, prompting a large emergency response and shutting down nearby roads.

Houston Fire Department crews are still on scene, working alongside Union Pacific representatives to assess the situation. Early reports confirm the trains were empty, which has helped ease the concerns about hazardous materials.
