‘This building is Capron’: Community pushes to preserve at-risk historic property

CAPRON, Ill. (WIFR) – Clay from across town fortifies a former well house. Mari-lyn Lobinsky credits the bricks to “Pete’s Pond” on the western edge of Capron.

“The ancestry into this building is from the ground up,” she attests. “If the walls could talk, it would say so much to all of us.”

Capron residents Lobinsky and Shirley Berghorn carry dozens of photos, stories and documents recounting the old well’s history in their village. The pair hopes to share its legacy and opportunity to be a museum before a possible demolition arrives…
