IPH Safe Haven opens early due to increased need; offers shelter through April, no referral required

Albany, NY (News10) — November is Homeless Awareness Month and it’s also been a cold one — making shelters more needed.

“It’s hard to be homeless, be out on the street in the cold. You got nowhere to go,” said Jeffrey Bullock.

Bullock first came to IPH Safe Haven in 2012. He had been homeless for ten years, when he decided he finally needed to do something about it.

“My story before I got here, it was messy,” Bullock said. “I was sleeping in parks, I slept all over…couldn’t take a shower, it was awful. But then I got here and just did a three-sixty. I changed my whole life around.”

Bullock is now in IPH’s supportive housing program, which subsidizes rent so that tenants pay no more than thirty percent of their income — whatever that income may be.Bullock also now works at IPH, doing various jobs…
