Fordham Heights: Two Men Hospitalized after Shooting on Ryer Avenue

Police said two men in their twenties were hospitalized following a shooting in the Fordham Heights section of The Bronx on Wednesday night, Nov. 26.

They said the incident occurred at around 9.41 p.m. on Wednesday at 2305 Ryer Avenue close to the Grand Concourse, between East 183rd Street and East 184th Street. A police spokeswoman said one person was shot in the foot and the other in the leg. “Both are stable,” she said, adding that she didn’t have details of which hospital the victims were taken to, and she also had no information on their ages. She said there are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

An hour or so later, another police spokesperson said the victim who was shot in the foot was 22 and the victim who was shot in the leg was 23.

Police had cordoned off the block where the shooting took place, which was located adjacent to a basketball court. It was unclear where exactly on the block the shooting took place though one officer told Norwood News it was closer to the East 184th Street end. At that end, officers were seen placing a bag of evidence in an NYPD vehicle as others started to unseal the crime scene.

A short distance way, around the corner on the Grand Concourse, in front of a residential building, a black, bloody sock and some blood stains were seen on the sidewalk. It’s unknown if the sock belonged to one of the victim’s or not. Norwood News spoke to a few other people at some nearby open businesses but nobody had any further information on what happened other than saying several police vehicles were seen in the vicinity after the shooting.

Later, we also spoke to Heather a local resident who said she did not witness the incident and was just on the street waiting to get back into her building as she was locked out. She shared her reaction, saying, “At this time of year, your life is more important. There should be no reason why, you know, you should pull out a firearm to hurt someone. There’s no reason to go that far, you know? Everybody is struggling to make ends meet. It’s just not worth it, no matter what. It’s just not worth it.”

Of Thanksgiving, Heather added, “People are trying to join their loved ones, and be thankful for something. I’m thankful for my life. I’m thankful that I’m able to fight another day. It’s not worth it, but unfortunately, there [is] access to firearms, and this is what they do.” Asked if there had been other incidents of violence in the area to her knowledge, she said, as another male neighbor joined her, “That, I don’t know but if [there] was, again, it’s not worth it.”

In March 2024, as reported, a 16-year-old gunshot victim hid his 13-year-old and 10-year-old siblings, saying, “They’re going to kill me,” as he fled a shooting which took place at a Dunkin Donuts on the corner of the Grand Concourse and East 184th Street, around a block from where the latest shooting took place.
