Search for a missing hiker called off

The search for Charles Hosch, a professor from Dallas is over. But the former resident of Gainesville, who knows the Appalachian Trail well, is still missing.

“Over the past days, more than 260 search and rescue professionals, including K9 teams, ground crews, drone operators, and volunteers, combed the terrain near Blood Mountain, but no definitive signs were found,” according to Kaitlyn Ross, a journalist from the NBC affiliate in Atlanta.

“Heavy rain forced temporary pauses in the search, and despite tireless efforts, Charles has not been located, she added on her post on social media. “His colleagues and loved ones remember him as joyful, kind, and deeply devoted to his family.”

Ross reminded those of us that live near the Southern Terminus of the Appalachian Trail to continue to be vigilant, “Anyone who was near Blood Mountain on or after Nov. 11, hikers, hunters, or anyone with trail-camera or drone footage, are urged to come forward. Even the smallest detail could help.”
