(WJET/WFXP) — PennDOT is planning for both Interstates 86 and 90, with winter weather forecasted to make its return on Thanksgiving, while also advising drivers only to head out on the roads unless necessary.
PennDOT said all of I-90 and I-86 in Erie County will be under Tier 1 vehicle restrictions and speed limits will be reduced to 45 mph starting at 12:01 am Thursday, with additional restrictions possible.

Under Tier 1 restrictions, the following vehicles are not permitted on affected roadways:
- Tractors without trailers.
- Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded enclosed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers.
- Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded tandem trailers.
- Enclosed unloaded or lightly loaded cargo delivery trucks/box trucks that meet the definition of a CMV.
- Passenger vehicles (cars, SUV’s, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers.
- Recreational vehicles/motorhomes.
- School buses, commercial buses and motor coaches.
- Motorcycles.
Commercial vehicles not affected by the restrictions will also have to stay in the right lane
