Virginia Tech property exchange has Blacksburg leadership concerned

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) In a meeting on Tuesday, the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors approved an exchange of properties in downtown Blacksburg between the university and its partner non-profit organization, the Virginia Tech Foundation.

The university gave about 20 acres of open land off Old Glade Road to the Foundation. The property is next to the University Mall, which the Foundation already owns.

In exchange, Virginia Tech received a little more than seven acres of land on Turner Street and Gilbert Street, adjacent to campus. That parcel contains Collegiate Square, Gilbert Place and the North End Center and parking garage…
