RG&E employees donate food to help families hit by SNAP disruption

Rochester Gas and Electric employees stepped up ahead of Thanksgiving to support families impacted by a federal government shutdown that disrupted SNAP benefits. The team donated more than 1,200 canned goods and raised over $1,300, delivering the contributions to the Father Tracy Advocacy Center in Rochester just in time for the holiday.

“Food is a necessity. We recognized the government shutdown impacted many families in our community,” said RG&E President Al Langland. “It was important for our employees to give back to offer additional support to area agencies that provide essential services to residents in need”.

The Father Tracy Advocacy Center offers housing assistance, job help, clothing, and support for accessing benefits like SNAP. Executive Director Beatriz Lebron called the donation a powerful example of compassion in action. “Your support ensures that families facing hardship feel seen, valued, and uplifted during a time when compassion matters most,” she said.

In addition to the food drive, employees logged volunteer hours through the company’s “Energized for Good” program, which contributed $15 for each hour served. That effort generated more than $1,300 through the Avangrid Foundation, RG&E’s parent company’s charitable arm…
