A tragic incident unfolded in Monroe County yesterday when a head-on collision claimed the life of a young driver and left another individual seriously injured. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported that at approximately 5:28 p.m., a 2010 Toyota Corolla, driven by 19-year-old Abbigal Garbers of Morenci, inexplicably crossed into oncoming traffic on South Telegraph Road, north of West Stein Road, and collided with a 2015 Hyundai Sonata operated by Palmer G. Merkel, 35, of Temperance, as reported by CBS News Detroit.
Following the crash, Merkel’s vehicle came to a halt facing westbound, in the middle of the road, while Garbers’ vehicle rested on the southbound shoulder facing east. ClickOnDetroit elaborated that both drivers were secured with seat belts at the time of the incident, and airbags were deployed in both vehicles. Garbers was transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, and Merkel was sent to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, where he was listed in serious condition…
