State Debate: Raising minimum wage would help affordability, UW-M professor declares

Pointing out that the federal and Wisconsin’s minimum wage is now about where it was back in 1945, Jeffrey Sommers, in a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel column, says finally raising it will answer some of our affordability problems. The UW-Milwaukee professor argues that raising the $7.25 minimum would profoundly improve conditions for working people.

Urban Milwaukee’s Bruce Murphy compiles what he calls nine winning issues for Wisconsin Democrats to run on next year. Included is expansion of the minimum wage, safer schools and expansion of Medicaid coverage.
