“It’s just good vibes all around,” Khloe Gaspard says over the music while she braids a client’s hair. Gaspard is a student at Delgado Community College’s barber-stylist program, and is one of four barbers and two braiders volunteering at a Thanksgiving giveaway on Broad Street.
When Ardell Toney, owner of The Godbarber-NOLA, and his cousin Kori Alugas decided to host an event with free haircuts, stitch braids, food and toiletries, they knew the community would turn out.
“People always don’t have a lot of money to get haircuts or their hair braided right before the holidays,” says Alugas, who works as a teacher at Edward Hynes Charter School – Parkview and runs The Godbarber-NOLA’s social media. “So we thought it’d be good to try to put our money together, and also we had people to donate as well.”…
