EUGENE, Ore. — The Eugene Police Department (EPD) says automated license plate readers, also known as Flock Cameras, helped officers recover stolen vehicles significantly faster this year and may have contributed to a sharper-than-expected decline in thefts.
In the past 11 months police recorded 358 stolen vehicle cases in the city, according to new data released by the department.
While the automated license plate readers were in use, officers recovered stolen vehicles about 30% faster, EPD said. The average recovery time dropped to 15.3 hours, compared with nearly 50 hours in 2024 and about 44 hours in 2023…
