Cynthia Erivo Ignites 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Amidst Chilly NYC Morning
NEW YORK CITY – The 99th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade commenced in spirited fashion on Thursday morning, with “Wicked” star Cynthia Erivo delivering a powerful rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” to officially kick off the festivities.
The iconic parade, broadcast live on NBC and Peacock, is being guided by the familiar faces of “Today” anchors Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker. Spectators bundled up against the crisp 39-degree weather at step-off, with Manhattan’s high temperature for the day not expected to exceed 45 degrees.
This year’s parade promises a grand spectacle, featuring 28 elaborate floats, 34 towering balloons, and four unique “balloonicles.” Marching bands from across the nation, an array of lively clowns, and, of course, the much-anticipated appearance by Santa Claus are all part of the tradition.
A star-studded lineup of performers is set to entertain the crowds. This includes Lainey Wilson, fresh off her Entertainer of the Year win at last week’s Country Music Association Awards. Also gracing the stage are EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI, who lent their voices to the fictional band Huntr/x from “KPop Demon Hunters,” alongside the legendary Radio City Rockettes, celebrating their remarkable 100th anniversary.
Adding to the celebrity presence are Drew Baldridge, Matteo Bocelli, Colbie Caillat, Gavin DeGraw, Meg Donnelly, Mr. Fantasy, Foreigner, Debbie Gibson, Mickey Guyton, Christopher Jackson, Jewel, Lil Jon, Kool & the Gang, Darlene Love, Roman Mejia, Taylor Momsen, Tiler Peck, Busta Rhymes, Calum Scott, Shaggy, Lauren Spencer Smith, Luisa Sonza, and Teyana Taylor.
